Pune, the cultural hub of Maharashtra, is gearing up for a vibrant showcase of its rich cultural heritage with the upcoming ‘Shivgarjana’ Mahanatya (Mega Play) from February 23rd to 25th, followed by the Mahasanskruti Festival at the end of the month. The events promise to inspire and celebrate the diverse traditions and artistic expressions embedded in the state’s history.
A preparatory meeting held in the Collector’s office, chaired by Resident Deputy Collector Jyoti Kadam and attended by key officials, outlined the arrangements for the Mahasanskruti Mahotsav and the commemoration of the 350th Shiva Rajya Abhisheka year.
Jyoti Kadam emphasized that the Mahasanskruti Mahotsav in Pune will be a showcase of various folk arts and cultural splendors of the state. The ‘Shivgarjana’ Mahanatya, set to take place in front of the Yerawada Jail training centre, will serve as a source of inspiration, especially for students of Mahanatya schools.
Officials from various departments, including Deputy Collector Archana Tambe, District Surgeon Dr. Nagnath Yempalle, and Deputy Commissioner of the Urban Development Department Venkatesh Durvas, attended the meeting. Plans were discussed for the three-day performance of ‘Shivgarjana’ Mahanatya, promising a captivating spectacle.
The Mahasanskrut Mahotsav, hosted at the Lokshahir Anna Bhau Sathe Auditorium in Bibvewadi, will unfold over five days, with a focus on local artists. Cultural programs, ranging from Shivcharitra to various folk arts of Maharashtra, will take center stage. Exhibitions showcasing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, protected forts, handicrafts, tourism, and products of self-help groups will add a touch of heritage and tradition.
Attendees can look forward to masculine sports, art from the Shiva period, disappearing sports, and various competitions, fostering engagement and celebrating the cultural diversity of Maharashtra. The festival aims to create an immersive experience that pays homage to tradition while embracing contemporary expressions of art and heritage.
