Pune: Sandalwood trees stolen from Chittaranjan Vatika in Model Colony

PUNE: An incident of two sandalwood trees being cut and taken away took place at Chittaranjan Vatika in Model Colony. The security guard of Chittaranjan Vatika, Shamrao Pawar (39), a resident of Sinhagad Road has lodged a complaint at the Shivaji Nagar police station.

The unidentified persons entered the Chittaranjan Vatika at midnight. They cut two sandalwood trees and took them away. After he came to know about the theft, Pawar lodged a complaint with the police. ASI Bhairve is probing the case.

In the last few months, the incidents of stealing of sandalwood trees have increased in the city. Unidentified persons have stolen sandalwood trees from government offices and bungalows. A fortnight ago, unidentified persons had cut and taken away a sandalwood tree after assaulting a security guard in Woodland Society in Kothrud. Unidentified persons had cut sandalwood trees at Kirloskar company in Khadki and there was a scuffle between the security guards and the robbers.
