Pune : Notorious criminal Vinayak Tanaji Gaikwad, who had created a ruckus and terrorised the people in the Sahakar Nagar area, found himself behind bars on Tuesday, December 19. The Pune Police Commissioner, Ritesh Kumar, invoked the stinging MPDA (Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities) Act against him for his growing anti-social activities in the Sahakar Nagar area and neighbourhood. This is the 72nd action of the Police Commissioner under the MPDA Act.
22-year-old Vinayak Gaikwad is a resident of Taljaimata Vasahat, Padmavati, Pune. He has been charged with various grave criminal offences, such as attempted murder, rioting, possession of illegal weapons, etc., at Sahakar Nagar Police Station. In the last five years, he has been booked for five serious crimes.
Residents allege that Gaikwad and his accomplices have disturbed public order in the area. People were fed up with this gang’s criminal activities. However, many people were afraid of complaining about them due to a potential fear of losing their lives and property.
Accordingly, a proposal to take action against Vinayak Gaikwad under the MPDA Act was submitted to Pune City Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar. After verifying the proposals and documents received, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the detention of Vinayak Gaikwad in Nagpur Central Jail for one year under the MPDA Act.
Sahakar Nagar Police Station Senior Police Inspector Surendra Malale led the operation to apprehend Gaikwad and his accomplices, along with Pune Crime Branch Senior Police Inspector Chandrakant Bedre and a team of other police officers.
The police are determined in their action against lawbreakers in the city and said that every necessary action will be taken by the city police to ensure the maintenance of law and order within the city limits.
