Pune RTOs Embrace WhatsApp: A New Way to Register Cab and Rickshaw Complaints

Pune, 19th Oct 2023: The Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad are set to introduce a WhatsApp complaint helpline, providing citizens with a convenient channel to report issues related to cabs and auto-rickshaws. This platform will enable commuters to register complaints concerning ride refusals, overcharging, misbehavior, and other grievances.

The launch of this WhatsApp helpline signifies a shift from traditional complaint methods such as email or postal submissions in matters concerning cabs and auto-rickshaws. Commuters will also have the option to include pictures or videos while detailing their complaints to the RTO. This initiative follows the recent introduction of a similar service in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to facilitate commuter feedback.

Frequent complaints from citizens and activists have highlighted issues with auto-rickshaws, such as the refusal to use meters and excessive fare charges within the city. However, the number of formal complaints submitted to the RTO via email or post has been limited. Officials anticipate that the adoption of the WhatsApp number will lead to a surge in complaints, given that WhatsApp is widely used and offers a user-friendly means of lodging grievances.
