Pune: RTO to conduct survey for Share an Auto-rickshaw plan for last mile connectivity

Road Transport Office (RTO)

Pune: The Road Transport Office (RTO) is taking steps to provide alternative public transport to citizens to encourage them to use Pune Metro service. As a part of this initiative, the RTO will make available the ‘Share an Autorickshaw’ option to commuters from their homes to a nearby metro station.

The RTO will conduct a survey of routes and collect data in this regard. It will prepare a report and then the fares of ‘Share an Auto-rickshaw’ service will be decided.

The MahaMetro will launch its extended routes from Vanaz to Ruby Hall Clinic and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to Civic Court from Tuesday evening (August 1). This is likely to increase the ridership of the Pune Metro. As per the MahaMetro claim, around one lakh passengers will travel by Pune Metro daily. Hence, the ‘Share an Auto-rickshaw’ will be started from metro stations. The RTO will conduct the survey for the same. RTO officials will find out the exact routes that Metro railway passengers take. They will also seek suggestions from passengers on fares for the ‘Share an Auto-rickshaw’ plan. Then they will submit the report to the RTO and the Regional Transport Authority (RTA).

The RTA will decide fares for a particular route. The Share an Auto-rickshaw plan will definitely benefit commuters.

Decision on fares

The distance between a metro station and the destination will be measured to decide fares. The auto-rickshaw fare for that distance will be calculated and the fares will be decided.

A meeting of stakeholders soon

A meeting of the Traffic Police, representatives of MahaMetro, auto-rickshaw unions, consumer fora and the Pune Municipal Corporation will be held, where the Share an Autorickshaw plan will be decided.

*Number of metro stations on Vanaz to Ruby Hall Clinic: 12

*Number of metro stations on Pimpri-Chinchwad to Civil Court route: 10

*The survey of routes needed for commuters from each metro station

*Details of the survey will be provided to the RTA to decide auto-rickshaw fares

The service will be started from each metro station with the involvement of all departments. A decision will be taken after the survey report is studied.
