Pune: Roads in city are full of potholes due to carelessness of engineers; PMC wakes up after rains hit city

Pune News

PUNE : Citizens who are facing inconvenience due to many potholes are likely to get some relief as Addl Municipal Commissioner Vikas Dhakne is going to inspect all roads in the city. Action will be taken against junior engineers of areas where there are potholes. Despite being told that all potholes have to be filled by May 31, the work has not been completed and the junior engineers will be pulled up for their shoddy work.

It was expected that all potholes and sunk chambers would be repaired by May end but at present, there are thousands of potholes on various roads.

Recently, a meeting was held by Civic Chief Vikram Kumar which was attended by chiefs of road department, anti-encroachment department, building construction department and solid waste department and he issued instructions that all potholes should be filled up in four days. Addl Municipal Commissioner Vikas Dhakne has adopted an aggressive posture and has decided to inspect various roads in the city. During inspection, if potholes are spotted, action will be taken against the concerned engineer.

Junior engineers will be told to work on a war footing to ensure that main 15 roads including Sinhagad Road, Baner Road, Katraj etc are free of potholes in four days. The condition of the roads has deteriorated after the second heavy rainfall in the city and the main reason for this is keeping the work of filling up potholes before May 31 incomplete.

Hence, despite the rain, in two-four days, coldmix will be used to fill up potholes and accordingly, instructions had been issued to ward offices and junior engineers, Dhakne said.
