Pune: Loan Meant for Second-Hand Truck Purchase Ends Up in Wrong Account; Loan-Seeker Files Complaint Against Three

Pune: A case of financial embezzlement has come to light involving the Managing Director of Adani Capital Throw, residing in Bandra, Mumbai, and a bank manager identified as Sawant from Ganeshkhind Road, Shivajinagar. Tofiq Hussain Bhai Kotwal, a 43-year-old resident of Baramati, filed a complaint (G. Reg. No. 48/24) at the Supa Police Station, exposing a series of irregularities in the loan application process.

The incident began when Kotwal sought a loan from a finance company to purchase a second-hand truck. However, before the loan approval, the truck intended for purchase was stolen. Despite this, the loan was not only approved in Kotwal’s name but shockingly credited to another individual’s account. The complaint implicates the then-Managing Director of Adani Capital Throw and bank manager Sawant in this alleged malpractice.

According to police investigations, Kotwal was directed by Umesh Pawar to secure a loan from Ketan, alias Chetan Khaire. Khaire obtained signatures on the necessary loan documents, with Kotwal’s wife acting as a guarantor. Promised a loan of 4 lakh 14 thousand rupees, Kotwal later decided against proceeding with the loan due to the stolen truck. He provided Pawar with a copy of the FIR and requested the loan case cancellation.

However, to Kotwal’s astonishment, on February 20, 2020, he received a notice from Adani Capital regarding non-repayment of the loan. Confused and concerned about it, he confronted Pawar, who assured him of resolving the matter with the finance office. The situation got worse when Kotwal received subsequent notices in July and August 2021, accompanied by vague responses from Pawar.

Suspicious about Pawar’s behaviour, Kotwal visited Adani Capital’s Shivajinagar office to seek clarification on the matter. To his dismay, the finance officer revealed that the approved loan amount had been deposited into Ketan alias Chetan Khaire’s account instead of Kotwal’s. Frustrated and left with no recourse, Kotwal approached the court, leading to the registration of a case by Supa police against the accused. Police Inspector Nagnath Patil is currently conducting the investigation as per the court’s order.
