Pune: Revised report of proposed elevated road linking Kothrud and Warje to be prepared

Pune News

PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has suggested to its advisor to prepare a revised project report of the proposed flyover between Warje and Kothrud and the elevated road on the hill as they are likely to obstruct the Pune Metro route. It has been suggested that the report should contain some alternative options. The PMC has proposed to build a flyover linking Warje and Kothrud and an elevated road over the tekdi. The civic body had appointed a consultant. The consultant had submitted a detailed project report to the civic body.

According to the plan, a flyover has been proposed at the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk and the flyover and the elevated road will meet at this point. This is likely to affect the planning for the proposed Pune Metro route. Hence, the Road Department has suggested to the consultant to prepare a revised plan. A flyover had been proposed on Karve Road, at the Ambedkar Chowk, since five roads come together. But the height of the flyover may obstruct the Pune Metro route. Hence, the PMC has not accepted the report of the consultant and asked him to make changes.

The Chief of the Road Department, VG Kulkarni, said that building a grade separator or other options will be included in the revised plan. A metro route has been proposed from Paud Phata to Manikbaug. The PMC has approved this new route and the MahaMetro is going to send the proposal to the state government for its approval. Meanwhile, a road has been proposed from the hill behind the Vandevi temple to link Warje and Kothrud by the nearest road and reduce the load of traffic on Karve Road.
