Pune Residents Embrace Online Payments for Electricity Bills, Pay Rs 1203 Crore to MSEDCL

Pune, 3rd July 2023: With the increasing convenience of online services aligning with modern lifestyles, a significant 65% of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) customers in Pune now prefer to pay their electricity bills online, eliminating the need for traditional queues and payment centers.

Over the past three years, there has been a remarkable 35% surge in consumers opting for online payment methods for their electricity bills. Currently, an average of 11 million electricity consumers comfortably settle bills worth Rs 5750 crore each month from the convenience of their homes. MSEDCL offers a seamless online bill payment facility that is available 24/7, allowing customers to pay their bills securely and conveniently.

Customers can access the online payment service through the website www.mahadiscom.in or the “Mahadiscom Mobile App.” This user-friendly platform enables the payment of multiple electricity bills from a single registered account. It also provides monthly bill details for all connections throughout the year and offers the convenience of saving payment receipts on a computer or mobile device. Additionally, customers with bills exceeding Rs 5,000 can opt for RTGS/NEFT payments, with the necessary bank details printed on the electricity bill.

All high-pressure category consumers of MSEDCL consistently opt for online bill payment, contributing to the total online recovery amount of INR 575 billion from 11 million customers across high-pressure and low-pressure categories. In the Pune circle alone, 2.28 million consumers have embraced online payment methods, settling electricity bills amounting to INR 1203 crore. Following closely, 1.9 million customers in the Kalyan circle have paid bills worth INR 725 crore, while 1.73 million customers in the Bhandup circle have settled bills totaling INR 1005 crore online. Moreover, Baramati has witnessed 1.068 million consumers paying bills worth INR 519 crore, and Nashik has seen 1.053 million consumers settle bills amounting to INR 469 crore online.

MSEDCL incentivizes online bill payment by offering customers a total discount of 1.25%, with an additional 0.25% discount for timely payments within a monthly limit of INR 500. Importantly, all options for online bill payment, except credit card payments, are free of charge. Customers with low-pressure connections can conveniently settle their bills from the comfort of their homes using this secure and user-friendly online service.

The growing popularity of online payment methods for electricity bills reflects the changing preferences of Pune residents and their embrace of digital solutions. The convenience, security, and discounts offered by MSEDCL have made online bill payment the preferred choice for a majority of customers. As technology continues to advance, it is expected that the trend of online payment adoption will further increase, contributing to a seamless and hassle-free experience for electricity consumers in Pune and beyond.
