Suhani Sharma and Aditya Maslekar, students from the Institute of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology (IBB) merged with the Department of Biotechnology at Savitribai Phule Pune University, have achieved a remarkable feat by being named recipients of the prestigious Khorana Program for Scholars for the year 2024.
This esteemed fellowship, established in honor of Dr. Har Gobind Khorana and backed by The Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF), and WINStep, presents selected scholars with an invaluable opportunity for research exposure at leading US universities during the summer of 2024, spanning a duration of 10-12 weeks. Their selection places them among the distinguished cohort of 75 students chosen for this esteemed program at the national level.
Aditya, who previously attended Millennium National School, Pune, before pursuing his studies at IBB, will be embarking on his research journey at Massachusetts General Hospital – Cancer Center, Harvard Medical School. His focus will be on Circulatory Tumor Cells (CTC). Reflecting on his achievement, Aditya attributed his success to the foundational knowledge and experiences gained at IBB, expressing eagerness to delve deeper into his summer internship.
Similarly, Suhani, hailing from NK Bagrodia Public School, Rohini, Delhi, transitioned to IBB for her academic pursuits. She has secured a placement at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), specifically at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Suhani also acknowledged the pivotal role played by the Institute of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology (IBB) in her attainment of the prestigious Khorana Scholarship.
Their achievements not only underscore their academic prowess but also highlight the excellence of IBB in nurturing and preparing students for impactful contributions in the field of biotechnology and beyond.
