Pune: Rail passengers on Pune-Mumbai route will not have to face crowds

PUNE: Passengers travelling on the Pune-Mumbai route have to face crowds every day. Many incidents of fighting have also taken place. The railway administration has undertaken the work of increasing the length of the platforms of Pune railway station which will enable more people to travel by the trains.

Thirty per cent has been completed and LHB 24 and ICF 26 coach trains will be able to arrive and depart from the Pune railway station on platforms 2/3/6. This will help Central Railway to carry more passengers in the coaches.

The number of people travelling from Pune railway station is increasing day by day. Despite increasing the number of trains, they are proving inadequate. Hence, the Indian Railways have undertaken the work of constructing a new terminal at Hadapsar. However, more people travel to Mumbai. Hence, the railway administration has decided to increase the number of coaches of the trains going to Mumbai. However, even after the coaches have been increased, the length of the platforms is proving inadequate. Trains having 16 or 18 coaches can stand on the platform. Hence, the railway administration has decided to increase the length of platforms 2,3 and 6. The work has started and it will involve an expenditure of ₹51.85 crore.
