Pune: Private bus operators double fares in festive season

Pune: Citizens travelling to their hometowns are facing the fare hike issue. The State Road Transport Office (RTO) has warned of taking action against private operators inflating fares unreasonably. However, the operators have still doubled fares.

Around 900 private buses go from Pune across Maharashtra. Most of them go to Marathwada and Vidarbha. Some passengers have already booked their tickets. However, those travelling at the last moment will have to pay more. The RTO has warned of action against private bus operators for exorbitant fares. However, stern action is not taken against them every year.

Violation of rules

The MSRTC has fixed the passenger fares as per the distance. Based on these fares, private or contractual operators have to charge fares. They are allowed to charge 50 pc more than MSRTC rates. However, some operators are charging more than that.

Where to complain

Citizens can complain about private bus operators on email ID [email protected] or call on 020-26058080 or 20-26058090.

Private bus operators are supposed to charge fares as per the rules. Action will definitely be taken against operators charging more. Passengers should complain about such malpractices to us. We will take action.
