Pune Police Launches Special Security Campaign for the Safety of Working Women

Pune Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar has initiated a special security campaign aimed at ensuring the safety of working women, particularly those returning home at night after working in IT companies. The campaign, set to commence today, involves the active participation of the Crime Branch, Traffic Branch, and local police.

Commissioner Kumar emphasized the importance of intensifying night police patrolling throughout the city and taking preventive action against individuals with a criminal background. This decision comes in response to a recent incident where a young computer engineer narrowly escaped a sexual assault attempt by an autorickshaw driver in the Wanwadi area. The prompt action of the woman, who immediately contacted the control room, resulted in the swift arrest of the perpetrator by the Wanwadi police.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of women commuting from IT companies during nighttime, prompting Commissioner Ritesh Kumar to take decisive action. He has instructed all senior police inspectors, including those from the crime branch and traffic police, to implement necessary precautions to ensure the safety and well-being of women.

The security campaign encompasses several measures, including:

  1. Increased night patrolling by the police force across the city to deter potential threats and criminal activities.
  2. Conducting security awareness activities in IT companies to educate employees about safety measures and precautions.
  3. Conducting thorough checks of licenses and permits of rickshaw drivers, as well as scrutinizing private vehicles and drivers associated with platforms like Uber and Ola.
  4. Taking preventive action against individuals with a criminal background to proactively address potential risks.
  5. Deployment of police personnel around Swargate, Shivajinagar bus stands, and railway stations to ensure the safety of passengers arriving from outside the city and prevent robbery incidents.
  6. Implementing stringent action against reckless driving during late hours and individuals with criminal records to maintain law and order.

Commissioner Ritesh Kumar also urged women to utilize the dedicated helpline number 1091, designed to assist women in distress. Furthermore, the Police Control Room number, 112, remains available for emergency situations, ensuring swift response and support.

The Pune Police’s special security campaign demonstrates their commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of working women. By intensifying patrolling, conducting awareness programs, and taking preventive actions, the police force aims to create a secure environment for women to commute without fear or hesitation. The campaign serves as a reminder that every individual has the right to feel safe and protected, and the police force is dedicated to upholding these rights and ensuring the safety of the community.
