Commissioner Amitesh Kumar Vows Firm Action Against Offenders

In a resolute move aimed at curbing street crimes, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has announced a “zero tolerance” policy concerning women’s safety. With a stern emphasis on cracking down on harassment and assault targeting women in public spaces, the police are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.

Commissioner Kumar emphasized that any form of harassment or assault, including incidents such as being hit with water balloons or being chased on the streets, will face strict repercussions. This firm stance underscores the police department’s unwavering dedication to upholding law and order in the city.

Amidst the uptick in clashes over minor issues, the police are prioritizing the prevention of street crimes. Commissioner Kumar highlighted the escalation of conflicts arising from road rage incidents at signals or on roads for trivial reasons. Stringent measures will be taken against criminal activities in public areas, including vandalism of vehicles, to maintain public safety.

In anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, a crackdown on criminals is already underway. The police are actively pursuing individuals with criminal records, particularly those involved in offenses under the Arms Act. Measures such as arrests under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act and the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) are being implemented. Additionally, lists of known criminals in the city are being compiled for preventive action against them in the ensuing months.

To enhance security measures, increased patrolling has been initiated across various areas, including slums. Efforts to strengthen police posts are ongoing, ensuring a proactive approach to maintaining law and order. Commissioner Kumar affirmed that necessary steps are being taken in alignment with the election process to ensure a safe environment for all citizens.
