Pune, 6th November 2023: Pune police have made a significant breakthrough by apprehending a man and a woman involved in an elaborate scam that targeted men using the dating app “Seeking.”
In a series of successful operations, the police resolved five cases linked to the intricate modus operandi of the accused, leading to the seizure of a total of Rs 50.69 lakh from the individuals involved.
The accused individuals specialized in targeting men from various states, initiating conversations through the use of fake profiles adorned with images of women. Once they established contact, the scammers used their cunning to persuade victims to book hotels and subsequently coerced them into making online payments. In some cases, the victims were even robbed of their valuables.
In Pune, FIRs have been registered against the accused at Vimantal, Chandan Nagar, Sinhgad Road, and Hinjawadi police stations. A similar case with a matching modus operandi has also been reported in Panvel.
Officials from the Social Security Cell of Pune Police Crime Branch have discovered connections to similar crimes reported in other cities, including Hyderabad and Bangalore.
The dedicated investigative team, led by Senior Police Inspector Bharat Jadhav, comprised API Aniket Pote, ASI Rajesh Malegave, and police personnel Rajendra Kumawat, Baba Karpe, Manisha Pukale, Tushar Bhivarkar, Hanmant Kamble, Irfan Pathan, Sagar Kekan, Imran Nadaf, Amey Rasal, Kishore Bhujbal, and Sandeep Kolge.
