Pune Police Conducts Night Raid, Apprehends Over 700 Criminals in Extensive ‘Combing Operation’

Pune, 11th January 2024: In a bid to curb the surge in criminal activities and uphold law and order, the Pune Police undertook a comprehensive ‘Combing Operation’ during the night, checking over 1500 individuals. The operation, conducted from 10 pm on Wednesday to 2 am on Thursday, resulted in the identification of 716 criminals, with 57 individuals apprehended during 54 operations in various areas.

Commissioner of Police Retesh Kumar has directed a strict crackdown on criminal elements within the city. Recent incidents of vehicle vandalism and assaults prompted the need for decisive action to investigate and apprehend criminals.

The operation extended beyond individuals, addressing issues like illegal gambling dens, clandestine hand furnaces, and other illicit activities. The Crime Branch registered six cases related to liquor dens, and local police seized gambling materials in 31 cases across different areas.

Under the Maharashtra Police Act, six wanted criminals were brought to justice. Furthermore, the police conducted inspections of 388 eateries, dhabas, and lodges in the city to ensure compliance with regulations.

Railway stations and ST buses underwent thorough inspections, and 1,227 suspected vehicles were checked by local police stations. Fines amounting to Rs 2.32 lakhs were imposed on 304 individuals for various violations. The traffic branch inspected 999 vehicles, resulting in penal action amounting to 2.12 lakhs against 293 persons.

As the Pune Police intensifies efforts to maintain public safety, the ‘Combing Operation’ serves as a proactive measure to curb criminal activities and ensure the well-being of the city’s residents.
