Pune: In a significant move to curb the increasing menace of crime in the Khadki area, Pune Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar has invoked the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act against Ajay alias Kavu Shivkumar Pillay, a notorious criminal with a history of serious offences.
Ajay Pillay, 28 years old and a resident of Naik Chawl, Bopodi, Pune, has been causing havoc in the Khadki vicinity through a series of crimes, including attempted murder, forced theft, and possession of illegal weapons such as machetes, swords, and knives. His criminal record at the Khadki Police Station reflects three serious offences within the last five years, leading to a disturbance in public order.
Citizens in the area refrained from openly filing complaints against Pillay due to the pervasive fear of potential harm to life and property. Recognising the gravity of the situation, a proposal to take action under the MPDA Act was submitted to Commissioner Ritesh Kumar, who subsequently ordered Pillay’s confinement in Amravati Central Jail for one year after thorough verification of the proposals and supporting documents.
This marks the 71st action taken by Commissioner Ritesh Kumar in view of maintaining law and order in Pune city. The operation was executed by a team of Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Sahane of Khadki Police Station, Senior Police Inspector Chandrakant Bedre of Crime Branch PCB, and a contingent of committed police officers and enforcers.
