Pune Crime Branch

Kondhwa, November 6, 2023: A 22-year-old man from Kondhwa has been booked by Pune City Police after it was discovered that his 17-year-old wife is pregnant, leading to the filing of a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The incident unfolded in Shivneri Nagar, Kondhwa, spanning from January to November 4. Aftab Akrabuddin Shaikh of Kondhwa is the accused in this case, based on a complaint lodged by Dr. Unmesh Ramesh Ambhore (29) of Pune Municipal Corporation-run Kamla Nehru Hospital, Mangalwar Peth.

The police’s investigation revealed that Aftab entered into marriage in January 2023 with knowledge of his wife’s minor status. Despite this, the accused proceeded to maintain a physical relationship with her. Subsequently, during the victim’s examination at Kamala Nehru Hospital, inquiries about her age confirmed her status as a minor at the time of the marriage.

In response to this revelation, the doctor filed a formal complaint against the accused husband with the Kondhwa Police Station, initiating an ongoing investigation led by Assistant Police Inspector Kudale.
