Pune: PMPML Contractor and Driver Booked in Electric and CNG Buses Collision Case

A collision between two PMPML (Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited) buses near the Aple Ghar stop on the Pune-Ahmednagar road has left 29 passengers injured, including eight women. The accident involved an electric bus operated by a private civil contractor and a CNG bus operated by PMPML.

Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the PMPML electric bus driver is at fault for the incident. Allegedly, the driver veered onto the wrong path while attempting to overtake a four-wheeler, leading to a direct collision with the PMPML CNG bus.

Fortunately, all passengers sustained only minor injuries, with 15 of them already discharged from Sasoon Hospital, where they received medical treatment. The remaining injured passengers are expected to be discharged soon, following the doctor’s recommendations.

Satish Ghate, the spokesperson for PMPML, has assured that legal action will be taken against the private contractor responsible for the accident.

The Vimantal police station has registered a case against the accused under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections 279 (rash driving), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 427 (mischief causing damage).

The private contractor involved in the incident has been identified as Balu Funde, aged 48, while the electric bus driver, who allegedly caused the collision, is named Rahul Dadarav Mane, aged 29.

The authorities are currently examining CCTV footage from the accident site to gather additional information and gain a better understanding of the sequence of events leading up to the collision.

Further investigations are underway, and statements from the injured passengers and the accused parties are being recorded to ascertain a comprehensive understanding of the circumstances surrounding the collision.
