Pune: PMC’s missing link project gathers steam; Land acquisition process for completing works of six roads in the final stage

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)

PUNE: The PMC’s efforts to complete the pending works of several roads by joining the missing link to speed up the traffic is becoming successful. The land acquisition process for completing the works of six out of 33 roads is in the final stage. This will help in easing traffic jams in the area.

This also includes an alternative road to the service road located near the Navle Bridge. The work of the roads shown in the development plan has been undertaken by the PMC. The work of many roads could not be completed due to non-acquisition of the land. Against this background, a review meeting was held by the civic administration to review the incomplete road works.
Information about important places to join the missing link to complete the road works was collected. The priority was decided. There are signs that six out of 33 road works may be completed. The process of acquiring land has been completed.

Alternative road in accident-prone Navle bridge area

Serious accidents resulting in fatalities are happening regularly in the Navle Bridge area. Since the area for a service road is not being acquired, the work cannot be completed. Since there is a crematorium, land for a road cannot be given. Hence, commuters use the bridge and avoid travelling by the service road. Against this background, an alternative road having less width was suggested. Accordingly, the civic administration has decided to construct an alternative road from Navle Bridge to Bhumkar Chowk. After this road having a width of six metres is constructed, the number of vehicles travelling by the Navle Bridge will reduce.

Missing links which will be connected

1) For the road from Magarpatta to Honeywell, the Irrigation Department has made land available. This will help in reducing the traffic in the industrial area

2) Land has been acquired for Kale Padal to Ravi Park (Handewadi) road and after constructing a road having width of six metres, an alternative road going towards Sasane Nagar railway bridge will be created

3) From Viman Nagar to Airport, an alternative road will be built and land has been acquired for another road

4) A road will be built from Indian Hume Pipe to Ganga Chowk as an alternative road to Sinhagad Road. The road will be connected with the proposed bridge to be built at Dudhane Lawns.

5) Land has been acquired for constructing a road from 509 Chowk to Lohegaon. This will create an alternative road to go to Lohegaon.
