Pune: Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Takes a Green Leap: Motion Sensors to Conserve Electricity

Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC)

Pimpri: In a commendable effort to promote energy conservation and reduce unnecessary electricity wastage, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has undertaken a significant initiative. The installation of motion sensors in all administrative offices, hospitals, theaters, and other facilities is set to revolutionize the way electricity is consumed.

Recognizing the need to curb electricity wastage, the PCMC authorities observed that several areas within their buildings experienced needless energy consumption. Lights, fans, and air-conditioning systems continued to operate even when no one occupied the spaces, leading to a substantial amount of electricity going to waste. This prompted Commissioner Shekhar Singh to direct the installation of motion sensors throughout the municipal infrastructure.

The motion sensors act as an automatic system, intelligently detecting human presence and responding accordingly. When no one is present in a specific area, the sensors will automatically switch off the lights, fans, ACs, and other electrical devices, thereby conserving energy. By deploying these sensors in administrative offices, hospitals, theaters, and toilets, PCMC aims to optimize energy usage and prevent unnecessary electricity consumption.

Engineer Babasaheb Galbale, Co-Chairman of the Electricity Department, highlighted that the motion sensors will be meticulously selected, and their implementation will be based on direct inspections of various facilities. This strategic approach ensures that the sensors are placed in areas where their impact will be most significant. With the motion sensors in place, the PCMC envisions saving substantial amounts of electricity, leading to reduced energy bills and a more environmentally friendly approach.
