Pune: On-Guard Police Officers Foiled Attempted Bike Theft, Apprehend Two Accused

Pune: Yesterday, the Crime Branch Unit of the Anti-Robbery and Anti-Theft Squad successfully apprehended two people who were attempting to steal vehicles in and around Pune city limits to earn quick money. Police seized four bikes and Rs 75 thousand from both and further revealed that the duo were in attempt of four more such actions. This action was taken at the Ambedkar slum on Market Yard Road.

The accused are identified as Dnyaneshwar Vijay Thite (22) and Sahil Eknath Malekar (18), and both are residents of the Katraj area of Pune. On Sunday, December 17, police officers of Anti-Robbery and Anti-Theft Squad-2 were patrolling in Bibwewadi and Market Yard police station limits. At that time, police constables Shivaji Jadhav and Ashok Atole received information from sources that two suspects were standing with a two-wheeler at Ambedkar slum, Market Yard Road, and that they were preparing to steal two-wheelers from the area.

Acting swiftly on tip-off, the police laid the trap and caught the accused off-guard, leaving no chances for them to escape. Upon further investigation, both the accused were confronted with their engagement in other instances of bike-stealing from Bharti University and Khadki Police Station areas.

Police seized four bikes and Rs 75 thousand from both the accused and detained them in lock-up. The successful operation was carried out by a team of Police Dinkar Lokhande, Ashok Atole, Vinayak Ramane, and Shivaji Jadhav under the guidance of Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar, Addl CP (Crime) Ramnath Pokale, DCP Amol Zende, ACP Satish Govekar, and Senior Police Inspector Nandkumar Gaikwad.
