Pune on Alert: IMD Predicts Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain in Monsoon Revival

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a revival of the monsoon in several parts of Maharashtra, with rainfall expected to cover a significant portion of the state, including Pune, in the coming days. A yellow alert has been issued for Pune for tomorrow.

According to the IMD, Pune is likely to experience “thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40kmph) at one or two places” on Friday. Heavy rainfall is also predicted for Sunday and Monday, with yellow alerts issued for both days under similar weather conditions. Saturday, however, is not expected to see any significant alerts, with light to moderate rain in the forecast.

The district has received substantial rainfall in the past few hours, leading to rising water levels in dams. Additionally, the ghat sections, notably the Tamhini Ghat area, have recorded significant rainfall, with IMD reporting 220 mm of rain in the last 24 hours.

In addition to Pune, the IMD has also issued alerts for several other districts in the state. Districts including Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Washim, Buldhana, Amravati, and Akola have been issued an orange alert for tomorrow. Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued for other districts such as Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Satara, Kolhapur, Sangli, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Wardha, and Yavatmal.
