Koregaon Park, 14th August 2023: A disturbing incident involving the alleged disrespect of the national flag during a musical performance at a Koregaon Park pub has stirred controversy and legal action. The Pune police have taken firm steps by officially registering a case against the singer involved in the incident, shedding light on the importance of upholding the honor and sanctity of the national flag.
The incident revolves around the actions of singer Uma Shanti, also known as Jiapiha Larina, and the event organizer Karthik More, who resides in Aundh. The incident transpired at the Freq – Super Club Bar Kitchen situated in the Koregaon Park locality, occurring around 12:30 midnight on a Sunday.
A formal complaint was lodged by Police Constable Tanaji Deshmukh at the Mundhwa police station, marking the commencement of an official investigation. According to the police account, Karthik More had arranged a pre-Independence Day event at the Freq – Super Club Bar Kitchen. The event featured a performance by Uma Shanti, a member of the Shanti People music band.
During the course of her performance, Uma Shanti was captured on video while dancing and waving the national flag, which she held in both of her hands. The visual depiction of this incident was subsequently circulated, generating public concern and leading to the initiation of legal proceedings by the police.
Assistant Police Inspector Sandeep Jore has taken on the responsibility of investigating the case, ensuring a thorough examination of the events and actions that unfolded during the performance.
In light of the incident’s gravity, the Pune police have taken measures to address the issue in accordance with the law. Both the accused individuals, Uma Shanti and Karthik More, have been booked under relevant sections of the law, including section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, and sections 110 and 117 of the Maharashtra Police Act. However, no arrests have been made at this time, as the investigation continues.
