Pune Municipal Corporation Cracks Down on Illegal Hoardings, Implements Stricter Penalties

PMC’s Vigorous Action Aims to Ensure Public Safety and Urban Aesthetics

Pune News : March 26, 2024: In a bid to tackle the menace of illegal hoardings posing threats to public safety, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has intensified its crackdown, imposing hefty fines on offenders. The recent enforcement drive not only involves the removal of unauthorized hoardings but also emphasizes rigorous fine collection, signaling a zero-tolerance approach towards violations and bolstering municipal revenue streams.

The renewed focus on addressing this issue follows past tragedies, including incidents in Ravet and Mangalwar Peth, where lives were tragically lost due to collapsing hoardings. In response, the PMC has stepped up proactive measures against illegal hoardings, conducting a survey last year that identified approximately 2000 unauthorized installations.

Under the new directives, individuals responsible for erecting illegal hoardings now face a significant penalty of Rs 50,000 per violation. The PMC anticipates generating around Rs. 10 crores in revenue from fines levied on offending businesses. Notably, the enforcement of penalties, previously lax, now receives top priority from the Sky Signs Department of the Municipal Corporation, ensuring prompt and efficient recovery processes.

The ongoing survey efforts have already identified 500 illegal hoardings scattered across the city, with concentrations in areas such as Wanawadi, Hadapsar, Fursungi, Uruli Devachi, and Nagar road. The municipal administration has pledged decisive action against each identified violation, reaffirming its commitment to upholding regulations and ensuring public safety.

Madhav Jagtap, Deputy Commissioner of the Sky Signs Department at the Municipal Corporation, underscored the severity of consequences for offenders, stating, “Action has been taken against those erecting illegal hoardings. Hefty fines will be collected from offenders. Fines have been collected from some agencies and the remaining will be collected soon.”

With the PMC’s unwavering resolve and systematic enforcement measures, Pune progresses towards eliminating the blight of illegal hoardings, fostering a safer and aesthetically pleasing urban environment for residents and visitors alike.
