Pune Metro services hit by technical problems

PUNE: Pune Metro is presently facing some technical problems. For two days, the metro service had stopped and this created inconvenience for passengers. The MahaMetro has started a probe to investigate these incidents and started taking steps to prevent such incidents. The metro service on the Ruby Hall to Vanaz route had been disrupted for half an hour on Tuesday. A metro train had stopped at the Nal Stop station for 21 minutes.

The metro service had been disrupted because a bird had hit the overhead cable which had affected the power supply. On the next day (Wednesday), a metro train developed a technical problem. The train arrived very late at a low speed. The passengers lined up outside the doors but they did not open. The train departed after some time without the opening of doors.

The passengers were forced to travel by the next metro train which arrived after a few minutes. The Pune Metro is facing technical problems after the services began on the extended route. Hence, MahaMetro has started an investigation. Executive Director of MahaMetro Hemant Sonwane said, “There was a technical problem on Wednesday due to a problem in the sensor of the door. If a technical problem develops in the metro, the quick response teams reach the spot and carry out repairs. If there is a technical problem, the reasons are probed. Steps are being taken to prevent such incidents.”

“The metro mechanism is new and if any problems occur, they are immediately solved. We cannot do anything if a bird hits an overhead wire. This affects the power supply. The system is normalised after 10 minutes. We are aiming at reducing this time,” said MahaMetro MD Shravan Hardikar.
