Pune Metro Prepares for Preliminary Trials on Bund Garden-Ramwadi Route

The Pune Metro, operated by Maha Metro, is gearing up to commence preliminary trials of train rakes on the elevated Bund Garden-Ramwadi stretch in Pune by the end of this month. With the construction of viaducts and signaling systems for this section entering its final phase, this stretch represents the concluding leg of the much-anticipated Vanaz to Ramwadi Metro route.

“We are aiming to complete all necessary tasks up to Ramwadi by November. Additionally, we’ve received feedback from commuters who have expressed a desire to extend Metro services to Nagar Road, connecting vital areas like Yerwada and Kalyaninagar with the central parts of the city,” revealed a Maha Metro official.

The expanded Metro line will serve regions including Yerwada, Kalyaninagar, and segments of Nagar Road, greatly benefiting those traveling to the eastern parts of the city.

According to an official, “The work on this section has been expedited, with the viaduct now stretching from Bund Garden to Ramwadi. The installation of overhead traction and signaling systems at the stations is currently underway. Preliminary track testing and rake trials are scheduled to commence by the end of September. These tests will evaluate the alignment of the viaduct, curves, gradients, and other technical aspects.”

“The progress on this section has been significantly accelerated. The viaduct is now completed from Bund Garden to Ramwadi. Presently, we are actively installing overhead traction and signaling systems at the stations. We anticipate initiating track testing and train trials by the end of September. These trials will be conducted in phases, with the train running on completed stretches. The testing and trials will continue through October, focusing on assessing the alignment of the viaduct, curves, gradients, and other technical elements,” emphasized an official.

On August 1, Maha Metro expanded its services to Ruby Hall Clinic, which has since experienced a high volume of passenger footfalls. Four stations—Bund Garden, Yerawada, Kalyaninagar, and Ramwadi—are planned on the route beyond Ruby Hall Clinic, extending all the way to Ramwadi.

Significant progress has been made at these stations, with over 75% of the work completed at each one. Initial entry and exit points are being developed for each station. Notably, the elevated Ramwadi section has made more significant progress compared to the underground Swargate route, which covers Kasba Peth, Bundhwar Peth, and Mandai. The Civil Court to Swargate Metro section is expected to be ready by December.
