Pune: Jangam brothers perform unique feat by taking tractor to the Raireshwar plateau

Kille Raireshwar

PUNE / BHOR: There is not even a pathway to go to the Kille Raireshwar plateau in the Bhor taluka. People use stone stairs and an iron ladder to go to the plateau. Since the ladder has a steep descent, people get scared while using it. In these circumstances, Jangam brothers, who are farmers, have set an unique example by taking a tractor to the 4,694 feet high plateau. The brothers used a special technique to take the tractor to the plateau and their feat is now being widely discussed.

Ashok Ramchandra Jangam and Ravindra Ramchandra Jangam purchased a tractor for doing agriculture work. However, the important question was how to take the tractor up the plateau when even walking is difficult. However, the brothers have shown that willpower and strong desire can help in achieving even the impossible.

The tractor which had been purchased on October 18 was taken to the base of the plateau. A mechanic, who had accompanied them, separated the tyres, engine, mud guard and other parts. These 20 to 25 parts were taken up the fort by using a rope. Similarly, the main structure of the tractor, rear tyres and engine were also carefully taken up the fort in difficult circumstances.

The villagers faced a tough time in completing the task and it took them two days i.e. October 18 and 19 to do it. On Thursday, various parts of the tractor were re-joined. Later, the tractor was started and taken to the village. The brothers have fulfilled their dream of taking the tractor up the plateau to be used in their and others’ farms and this is the first time in the history of the village that a tractor has been taken up the plateau to be used for farming.

The plateau is spread over 16 km and 45 families reside there. The place is 26 km from Bhor and the MSRTC bus goes up to Korle village. From there, villagers are forced to walk and use the iron ladder to go to the plateau. The iron ladder has been used by villagers and tourists for many years.

Organic wheat, ragi and other crops are grown on the plateau. The farming is done by traditional methods by using bullocks. However, despite the advancements in science and technology, it had not been possible to take a machine to the plateau. However, Ashok and Ravindra have performed a unique feat of taking a tractor to the plateau to be used for farming.
