Pune, May 6th, 2024: Rudra Singh, a student of CP Goenka International School, Pune, has secured a coveted spot in the Asian Junior (under-17) squash championship scheduled to take place in Islamabad, Pakistan, from June 25th to 29th this year.
Rudra’s remarkable achievement comes on the heels of her participation in her first tournament post the 10th board exams conducted in March. Her qualification in the girls U-17 category was sealed as she clinched a berth in the final of the Asian Junior Selection Trials 2024 held in Chennai. Accompanied by her elder sister Yoshna, a two-time National champion in the girls U-17 category, who is currently pursuing her studies at the University of Pennsylvania, Rudra made her way to Chennai for the rigorous selection trials conducted by the Squash and Racket Federation of India (SRFI).
With the SRFI stipulating that the top three finishers at the selection trials would be chosen for the Islamabad event, Rudra’s journey to the final ensures her a podium finish. Set to face Unnati Tripathi in the summit clash, who secured her spot by defeating Navya Sundararajan, Rudra’s determination is palpable as she vies for top honors in the championship.
This isn’t Rudra’s first brush with the Asian Junior Championship. Having qualified for the event last year in the girls U-15 category held in Hangzhou, China, Rudra, unfortunately, had to forego her participation due to a leg injury sustained just ahead of the tournament.
Results:
Semifinal: Rudra Singh defeated Sehar Nayar 11-6, 11-7, 3-11, 11-3.
Unnati Trpathi defeated Navya Sundararajan 11-7, 11-4, 4-11, 11-6.
Rudra’s commendable journey in the squash arena serves as a testament to her talent and dedication, bringing pride and acclaim to the city of Pune.
