Pune, 26th June 2023: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the ghats in and around Pune city for the next 48 hours, as heavy rainfall is predicted in the region. This alert serves as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of residents and visitors alike.
According to Anupam Kashyapi, the head of weather forecasting at IMD Pune, the city area can anticipate an increase in rainfall activity, with moderate rain expected in the range of 15.5 to 64.4 mm over the next 24 hours. Intense spells of rain are also likely to occur during this period.
In light of the adverse weather conditions, Kashyapi has advised the public to avoid visiting the ghats. The orange alert indicates that authorities should be prepared for the situation, and residents should exercise caution if they need to venture into these areas.
Additionally, residents within the city limits have been urged to remain vigilant as the rainfall is expected to be significant enough to cause water stagnation in low-lying areas. Given the current condition of the city roads, the increased rainfall may lead to a rise in the number of potholes, posing challenges for commuters.
