Pune: Fire Breaks Out In Konark Orchid Society Flat On Diwali Day

Pune: A fire erupted in a 12th-floor flat at Konark Orchid Society around 11 a.m. today, gutting the entire furniture and belongings within to ashes. The flat, owned by Sudhindra Babu Malayanur, caught fire while the occupants were away for shopping, leaving the exact cause of the blaze undetermined.

In the morning, nearby residents noticed smoke billowing from the affected flat at the eleventh hour. Immediately, they alerted the fire brigade, which dispatched two fire tenders to the scene. Within half an hour, the firefighters, led by Wagholi fire brigade officers Vijay Mahajan and Mahesh Patil, successfully brought the flames under control.

In a fortunate turn of events, no lives were lost in the incident, emphasising the importance of timely intervention. The flat, however, suffered extensive damage, with all furniture and items succumbing to the ferocity of the flames.

The emergency response team prioritised safety and successfully rescued two gas cylinders from the blazing flat. The Fire Brigade further suspended electricity supply in the building as a precautionary measure during the firefighting operation.

Sudhindra Babu Malayanur, the flat owner, and his family had left for shopping at 10:30 a.m. in the morning, after which the blaze erupted significantly, damaging all the furniture in the house. Meanwhile, Wagholi fire brigade officer Vijay Mahajan urged residents to exercise caution during the festive season, emphasising the importance of turning off earthen-clay lamps and cylinders before leaving their homes.
