Pune Division Railway Witnesses Decline in Ticketless Travellers

Pune, July 9th, 2023 – The Pune Division of Railways has reported a notable decrease in the number of ticketless passengers detected this year. Railway officials have stated that between April 1st and June 30th, a total of 79,732 individuals were apprehended for travelling without tickets. This represents a decrease compared to the 1.03 lakh passengers caught for ticketless travel during the same period last year.

In April this year, 28,167 ticketless passengers were caught, a decrease from the 36,579 passengers caught in the corresponding month of the previous year. Similarly, in June, the number of ticketless passengers reduced to 25,377 from the 30,410 recorded in June of the previous year.

The Railway authorities have achieved a revenue collection of Rs 8.22 Crore through ticket checking operations carried out between April and June this year. This decrease in ticketless travel coincides with an increase in the number of passengers originating from the Pune division. In June alone, a total of 43.9 lakh passengers commenced their journeys from various railway stations within the Pune division, as compared to 33.1 lakh passengers recorded in the same month last year.
