Pune: Delayed action! Nakabandi ops after midnight in the city; curbing drunk driving

Pune : The traffic police have started acting against drunk driving following the hit-and-run case in Kalyani Nagar on Sunday. The police on Wednesday acted against 85 people for drunk driving by conducting nakabandi operations in Mundhwa, Koregaon Park, Yerwada, Viman Nagar and other parts of the city. The sudden check posts are being set up to curb drunk driving and resulting accidents after midnight in the city.

Two IT engineers were killed in the hit-and-run case, in which the drunk minor son of prominent builder Vishal Agarwal was driving his father’s Porsche car at a high speed. Later, the traffic police started acting against speeding vehicles violating rules after midnight. They are also acting against drunk driving. The nakabandi operations continued till early morning in various parts of the city.

The police checked 1,255 vehicles till the wee hours of Wednesday. As many as 85 people were found drunk driving. Around Rs 2.22 lakh fine was recovered from violators. The action was taken in Yerwada, Mundhwa, Viman Nagar, Chatuhshrungi, Korgeaon Park and other areas of the city. A high number of cases were registered in Mundhwa and Sahakar Nagar areas.

Sudden nakabandi operations will be conducted in the city under the guidance of CP Amitesh Kumar and Jt CP Praveen Pawar. This was revealed by DCP (Traffic) Rohidas Pawar.
