Pune: Confrontation Erupts as Mahavitaran Company Takes Action Against Electricity Theft

Pune Crime News

Pune: In a recent incident in Kunjirwadi, tensions flared between Mahavitaran Company officials and a resident, resulting in a case being filed at Loni Kalbhor Police Station. Dhammapal Hausaji Pandit, a 50-year-old resident of Satavnagar, Hadapsar, lodged a complaint against Ganesh Daundkar, 47, a resident of Theur Phata, Pune.

The incident unfolded on Monday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. when the Deputy Executive Engineer of Urulikanchan sub-division, Dhammapal Pandit, along with his team comprising Sunil Shinde, Anchal Bagde, Ashwini Gore, and Kiran Zende, were inspecting electricity connections disconnected due to overdue bills in Theur Phata, Kunjirwadi.

In the investigation, they found that the electricity of Lata Mohan Daundkar of Ambekarvasti amounted to Rs 9,150. To their surprise, it was discovered that the customer had been illicitly drawing electricity from a neighbouring consumer. A detailed site inspection report documenting this theft was promptly prepared.

The situation escalated when Ganesh Daundkar arrived at the scene and vehemently objected, tearing up the inspection report. He not only disputed the relevance of the officials’ visit to his residence but also physically obstructed Deputy Executive Engineer Pandit and his colleagues. As a result, a case has been registered against Ganesh Daundkar under IPC 353 and IPC 323 for voluntarily causing harm to a public employee.

Police Sub-Inspector Ghodke is currently leading the investigation into the incident.
