Comprehensive Two-Month Campaign Targets Vaccination, Maternal Care, and Disease Prevention

In an effort to bolster public health initiatives and enhance awareness about family planning, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to kickstart a rigorous two-month-long survey beginning Monday. The extensive campaign aims to gather vital information concerning vaccination needs, maternal health, and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among the city’s population of 32 lakh individuals.

Titled the ‘Family Planning Survey’, this initiative underscores the municipality’s commitment to promoting reproductive health and ensuring access to essential healthcare services for all citizens. A team of 305 auxiliary nurses and midwives (ANMs) will spearhead the door-to-door survey, meticulously covering every nook and corner of the city.

Dr. Rajesh Dighe, Assistant Health Officer at PMC, emphasized the comprehensive nature of the survey, highlighting its focus on collecting data regarding family demographics, children’s health, and reproductive-aged couples. “We aim to provide crucial information about both permanent and temporary contraceptive methods to empower couples in making informed decisions regarding family planning,” stated Dr. Dighe.

Furthermore, Dr. Dighe underscored the significance of addressing severe acute malnutrition (SAM) and moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) among children, alongside tackling prevalent NCDs such as hypertension, diabetes, cardiac ailments, and cancer within the population.

Echoing Dr. Dighe’s sentiments, Dr. Bhagwan Pawar, Health Officer at PMC, emphasized the multifaceted benefits of the survey. “By identifying gaps in vaccination coverage and ensuring expectant mothers receive timely prenatal care, we aim to significantly reduce morbidity and mortality rates among both newborns and mothers,” remarked Dr. Pawar.

Moreover, Dr. Pawar stressed the importance of integrating individuals diagnosed with NCDs into preventive healthcare programs, offering them access to free medical and surgical treatments. The collaborative effort between PMC and the state health department seeks to leverage the survey findings to inform and enhance existing public health strategies.
