Pune Citizens Collaborate with Traffic Police for City-wide Traffic Solutions

Pune, January 30, 2024 – On January 29, citizens of Pune gathered to meet the newly appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police, Shashikant Borate, at his office in Yerwada. The meeting, organized by Team Swachh Kalyani Nagar (TSKN), aimed to discuss and address various traffic-related concerns affecting the city.

Representatives from TSKN, a group of active citizens from Kalyani Nagar, engaged in a dialogue with Deputy Commissioner Shashikant Borate of Pune Traffic Police. The meeting primarily focused on the prevalent traffic indiscipline issues experienced across Pune.

During the discussion, it was proposed that Kalyani Nagar, with its involved citizenry and collaborative experiences, be designated as a model focus area for a trial run in enforcing order and discipline on its roads. This trial period is set for three months, and the outcomes and learnings will be evaluated for potential implementation in other localities.

The meeting, facilitated by Pune Platform for Collaborative Response (PPCR), represented by coordinator Aniket Bhilare, also saw the participation of citizens from various localities who shared their concerns and suggestions.

Ameet Singh, a core member of Pune River Revival, expressed appreciation for the active members and citizens of Kalyani Nagar who took the initiative to represent the community. He stated, “The DCP is a very positive person who has assured discussion and resolving traffic problems every month. For public awareness, boards, popularly known as Puneri Patya, will be put on roads for people to understand more about traffic rules and more. This is a good idea. Other issues like breaking traffic signals, wrong-side driving, etc were also discussed.”

Aniket Bhilare, coordinator of PPCR, highlighted the collaborative nature of these meetings with the DCP, aiming to collectively discuss and find solutions to traffic issues. Additionally, he mentioned an ongoing National Road Safety Abhiyan, where workshops in corporate houses are conducted to enhance public awareness about following traffic rules.
