Pune: Caution Urged For Tourists And Residents As Khadkwasla Dam Reaches Full Capacity

Pune, 27th July 2023: The Khadakwasla Dam, located in Pune, has reached its full capacity due to heavy rainfall in the Ghat and catchment areas. In response to this, the Khadakwasla Irrigation Department Pune has issued a cautionary advisory, urging all tourists and residents to exercise extreme caution and prioritize safety measures during this critical period.

The rising water levels have prompted the release of water into the riverbed, leading to potential dangers in the vicinity of the dam. Executive Engineer Shweta Kurhade of the Khadakwasla Irrigation Department Pune stressed the importance of adhering to safety guidelines and strongly advised tourists not to venture near the water or indulge in activities like photography or videography near the dam.

The increased water discharge from the Khadakwasla dam spillway into the Mutha river basin has been closely monitored by the department. As of 9 pm, the discharge reached 3424 cusecs, and further adjustments may be made as necessary to manage the water levels safely.

An update at 11 pm indicated a further increase in water discharge to 4280 cusecs, highlighting the urgency of exercising caution during this period.

The Khadakwasla Dam plays a vital role in water management and irrigation in the region, but during times of heavy rainfall and maximum water capacity, it can pose risks to those who disregard safety guidelines. Authorities are working diligently to ensure the smooth management of water discharge while prioritizing public safety.

Residents and tourists are encouraged to stay informed about the situation and follow any additional guidelines issued by the local authorities. It is essential to avoid unnecessary risks and prioritize personal safety during such natural events.
