Pune Book Festival Shatters Records: 11 Crore Turnover and Four World Records

In a spectacular display of literary enthusiasm, the Pune Book Festival, orchestrated by the National Book Trust (NBT), has not only broken records but also etched its name in the annals of world records. The festival, which unfolded at Fergusson College grounds from December 16th to 24th, generated an astounding turnover of approximately 11 crores, marking a significant milestone in the realm of book festivals.

Record-Breaking Achievements

The festival’s grand finale saw the announcement of an extraordinary accomplishment — a record-breaking turnover coupled with the sale of eight and a half lakh copies of books. This monumental success has not only set a new benchmark for literary events but has also secured four world records in categories associated with books and reading.

Distinguished Presence at the Conclusion

The festival’s conclusion was graced by eminent personalities, including Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Actor Praveen Tarde, NBT President Milind Marathe, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Suresh Gosavi, Registrar Dr. Vijay Khare, and Pune Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Vikas Dhakne.

Citizen Enthusiasm and Participation

The heartening response from Pune’s residents contributed significantly to the festival’s triumph. Boasting a staggering four and a half lakh attendees, the festival witnessed an impressive turnout of school and college students, who emerged as the largest demographic of book buyers and visitors. The distribution of 87 thousand copies of Narendra Modi’s book “Exam Warriors” and 69 thousand copies of the book “Shivarajyabhishek” further underscored the festival’s impact.

Future Plans and Collaborations

Buoyed by the success, plans are already underway for the next edition of the festival. Collaborative efforts with the Municipal Corporation aim to establish Pune as the capital of books. Festival organizer Rajesh Pande expressed the intent to approach NBT for the creation of a reading culture center in Pune.

Acknowledgment and Showcasing Success

Minister Chandrakant Patil commended the unprecedented response from citizens, debunking stereotypes about children’s reading habits. The triumph of the Pune Book Festival will be highlighted in the upcoming International Book Festival at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, featuring a dedicated information hall. NBT President Milind Marathe affirmed their commitment to the festival’s ongoing promotion and success.
