Pune: Bagban restaurant owners booked in Rs 61-lakh cheating case

Pune: The owners of the popular Bagban restaurant in Camp have been booked for not paying over Rs 61 lakh towards pending bills to a meat trader.

The incident took place during 2019-2023 at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Market, Camp. A case of cheating has been registered at the Lashkar Police Station.

A complaint has been lodged by Shadaf Nizam Patel (43), a resident of Camp. Restaurateurs Afzal Yusuf Bagwan (65) and Ahtesham Ayaz Bagwan (34), both residents of Kondhwa, have been booked under sections 406, 420, 506 and 34 of the IPC.

According to the police, the complainant sells meat. The accused had been buying mutton from him on credit by winning his confidence. The complainant had an outstanding bill of over Rs 2.91 crore for supplying meat. However, the accused paid over Rs 2.30 crore. They did not pay the remaining amount of over Rs 61.62 lakh. The complainant kept on demanding the pending payment. However, the accused avoided paying it, stated the complaint. PSI Bansode is investigating the matter.
