Pune Anti-Narcotics Squad Busts Drug Smuggling Operations; Two Arrested

Pune, 29th July 2023: In a commendable effort, the Pune Police’s anti-narcotics squad successfully apprehended individuals involved in drug smuggling activities in separate operations. The arrests led to the seizure of a substantial quantity of illegal drugs with a combined value of over Rs 61 lakhs.

The first operation took place in the Hadapsar area, where the police received crucial information about a youth attempting to sell opium. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a team led by police constable Yogesh Mandhare set up a trap and apprehended the suspect. The arrested individual has been identified as Mehnlal Megaram Bishnoi, a 24-year-old resident of Bhagrapura in District Badner, Rajasthan. Upon searching Bishnoi’s bag, the officers discovered and confiscated three kilograms and 29 grams of opium, estimated to be worth Rs 60 lakh.

In a separate incident, the anti-narcotics squad successfully nabbed a ganja peddler in the Yerawada area near a crematorium. The suspect, identified as Sonu Sahebrao Kolse, 44 years old and residing in Subhash Colony, Srirampur, District Ahmednagar, was arrested with 9 kilograms and 935 grams of ganja, valued at Rs 1 lakh 98 thousand 700.

The seamless execution of these operations can be attributed to the coordinated efforts of various law enforcement officials. Additional Commissioner (Crime) Ramnath Pokle, DCP (Crime Branch) Amol Zende, ACP Satish Govekar, Police Inspector Sunil Thopte, Sub Inspector Shubhangi Narke, and officers Digambar Chavan, Sandeep Shelke, Yogesh Mandhare, Shivaji Ghule, and Santosh Deshpande played pivotal roles in ensuring the success of these anti-narcotics missions.
