Pune Airport Prepares for Enhanced Passenger Experience with New Terminal Launch

In anticipation of the imminent opening of Pune Airport’s new terminal, significant upgrades are underway to streamline passenger services and enhance convenience.

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has announced plans to close the entry gate of the old terminal, paving the way for the establishment of 15 new ‘check-in’ counters within the vacated space. Additionally, a dedicated ‘security holding area’ will be introduced on the upper level of the same building, aiming to expedite pre-flight procedures for travelers.

As the new terminal nears operational readiness, preparations are underway for the closure of the existing facility and the commencement of various infrastructure projects. The timing aligns with the upcoming summer schedule, offering a timely boost to passenger services amid increasing travel demand.

The Pune AAI has confirmed that the new terminal boasts 34 ‘check-in’ counters to manage the steady influx of passengers. With the addition of 15 counters at the former entry gate, the total count will rise to 49, significantly reducing wait times and congestion during peak hours.

A senior AAI official, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed plans for the relocation of ticket counters, passport department offices, and CISF facilities from the vicinity of the departure gate. Subsequent demolition of structures near the exit gate will further optimize internal airport space, enhancing operational efficiency.

The inauguration of the long-awaited new terminal on March 10 marked a milestone for Pune Airport, albeit after enduring several delays. The ongoing transition of services and passenger amenities signifies a significant step towards modernizing airport infrastructure and elevating the overall travel experience for passengers.
