Pune Municipal Corporation

Pune, 13th July 2023: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has recently apprehended a total of 22 officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for their involvement in demanding and accepting bribes over the past 5.5 years. In a recent incident, an official from the water supply department of PMC was arrested by ACB for soliciting a bribe from an individual.

Official data reveals a concerning increase in the number of PMC officials caught in ACB’s net over the past two years. In both 2022 and 2021, six PMC employees each were arrested for corruption-related charges.

Further analysis of the data shows that one PMC employee was arrested for corruption in 2020, while two cases were reported in 2019. Within the first six months of this year, two additional cases of corruption have come to light. Similarly, a total of five corruption cases were reported in 2018.

The ACB’s continued efforts to crack down on corrupt practices within PMC demonstrate a commitment to combating bribery and ensuring accountability among public officials. These actions aim to uphold the principles of transparency, integrity, and good governance in the functioning of the municipal corporation.
