Pride of Pune: President’s Colour Bestowed on AFMC by Droupadi Murmu

In a momentous ceremony held on December 1, 2023, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, bestowed the prestigious President’s Colour upon the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune. The ceremony also marked the virtual inauguration of the Armed Forces Centre for Computational Medicine ‘Prajna.’

In her address during the occasion, President Murmu lauded AFMC’s standing as a beacon of excellence in medical education. She recognized the institute’s graduates for their distinguished service, demonstrating unwavering dedication in times of war, counter-insurgency operations, natural disasters, and global pandemics.

Expressing her satisfaction, the President highlighted the noteworthy contributions of female cadets who have emerged from AFMC, holding key positions in armed forces medical services. President Murmu expressed optimism that their achievements would inspire more women to pursue careers in the armed forces.

Acknowledging the evolving landscape of medical technology, President Murmu emphasized the critical role of Armed Forces Medical Services in leveraging advancements such as Artificial Intelligence, Precision Medicine, 3D Printing, and Telemedicine. She stressed the responsibility of ensuring the highest standard of medical care for all personnel across the three services, keeping them in optimal health and combat-ready.

Encouraging a focus on research and the integration of cutting-edge technology in medical practices, President Murmu expressed confidence in AFMC’s commitment to excellence. She urged the AFMC team to continue their pursuit of outstanding contributions in the realm of military healthcare.
