Potholes and Perils: Mohammadwadi Residents Demand Urgent Road Repairs

Pune – Inhabitants of NIBM and Mohammadwadi find themselves in a state of distress, grappling with the deplorable road conditions stretching from Royal Heritage Mall to Dorabjee Paradise. The road, marred by a mixture of gravel and concrete, has evolved into an uneven surface, causing immense difficulties for motorists navigating the area.

Speaking to Press, Nelma Pinheiro, a resident of Dorabjee Paradise, Mohammadwadi, expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing road situation. Pinheiro emphasized the repeated application of temporary fixes, generating excessive dust in the vicinity. The presence of gravel on the road has become a significant impediment to smooth commuting, contributing to frequent accidents and mishaps. Pinheiro urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to address the issue promptly, advocating for the construction of barriers to prevent mud from affecting the road and suggesting the leveling of the hill as a potential solution.

An anonymous resident of Sangria Society, Mohammadwadi, echoed concerns about the road conditions, citing issues such as gravel accumulation and the constant movement of heavy vehicles. The high traffic flow on the road amplifies the risk of accidents, particularly for two-wheelers. The resident recounted a personal incident involving their driver sustaining injuries due to the poor road condition. Despite numerous complaints to the PMC over the past 1.5 years, no substantial action has been taken to rectify the situation.

Parveen Tambe, Founder Member of the NIBM Undri Residents’ Forum, highlighted the recurring problem of gravel accumulation on the road. While acknowledging the clearance efforts using cranes, Tambe stressed the urgent need for road tar coating. The road, serving as a crucial commuting route for residents of NIBM, Mohammadwadi, Kondhwa, and surrounding areas, demands immediate repairs.

Gautam Gavand, an official from the PMC Road Department, attributed the gravel accumulation to heavy vehicle movement and assured ongoing efforts to minimize the slope. Gavand also mentioned upcoming road projects, such as widening at Cloud 9 and slope reduction near Clover Hills, aiming to alleviate the burden on the troubled road. He committed to taking relevant action to address the gravel issue promptly.
