Politics of Loyalty: The Pawar Dynasty’s Turbulent Terrain

Ajit Pawar’s appeal sparks debates over allegiance and political lineage as Baramati prepares for electoral showdown.

Pune: Tensions simmer in Baramati as the Pawar family feud takes a prominent turn ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar addressed the brewing controversy during a press conference on Thursday, highlighting the complexities surrounding familial ties and political allegiances.

Responding to Ajit Pawar’s recent appeal to Baramati voters, urging support for the candidate with the Pawar surname, Sharad Pawar remarked, “There is an original Pawar and one coming from outside.” The statement alludes to the familial divide within the political landscape of Baramati, where Ajit Pawar’s wife, Sunetra Pawar, challenges sitting MP Supriya Sule, Sharad Pawar’s daughter.

Ajit Pawar’s call for allegiance to the Pawar name in the electoral arena has sparked debates over loyalty and political lineage. He appealed to voters to shift their support from Supriya Sule to Sunetra Pawar, citing a longstanding association with the Pawar family.

However, Sharad Pawar rebuffed Ajit’s claims, asserting that family members have actively participated in election campaigns in the past. The contentious remarks add fuel to the ongoing rivalry between factions within the NCP stronghold of Baramati.

In addition to the intra-family disputes, Sharad Pawar addressed recent speculations surrounding political alliances, particularly in light of Praful Patel’s claims regarding a potential collaboration with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2023. Dismissing the allegations, Sharad Pawar emphasized his unwavering commitment to the NCP’s principles and objectives.

Amidst the political turbulence, the NCP (SCP) sees a new addition with Dhairyasheel Mohite Patil set to join Sharad Pawar’s faction. Commenting on the induction, Sharad Pawar emphasized the importance of individuals joining the party without expectations, signaling a broader ethos of commitment to public service.

As the electoral landscape in Baramati evolves, the Pawar family feud and shifting political allegiances underscore the intricate dynamics shaping Maharashtra’s political trajectory. With the impending Lok Sabha elections, the region braces for heightened tensions and strategic maneuvering as political contenders vie for supremacy.
