Police Commissioner Takes Action Against Delayed Pune Metro Work, Orders Overnight Completion

Pune : The Pune police commissioner, Amitabh Kumar, took a stern stance on Thursday as he inspected the Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk, reprimanding Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Mero) officials for the delayed work causing inconvenience to the public.

The surprise afternoon visit by Kumar revealed a series of issues, including potholes, construction material scattered on the road, and barricades placed haphazardly, leading to significant traffic jams. The inspection followed numerous complaints on social media, where the traffic branch was accused of inadequate management of vehicular movement at this bustling location.

Expressing his dissatisfaction with the situation, Commissioner Kumar addressed the officials present at the site, stating, “I have been telling you to complete the works for the past 15 days. Work overtime and finish the work by sunrise tomorrow.” This directive reflects the urgency to resolve the pending issues promptly.

In addition to the Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk, Kumar extended his inspection to other areas, including Baner, Pashan, and Sus Road, where he observed and addressed various traffic-related issues. Accompanied by additional commissioner Manoj Patil and deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Shashikant Borate, the top cop emphasized the need for immediate corrective action to ensure smooth traffic flow.

The publicized visit signals a proactive approach by law enforcement to address civic concerns promptly, reinforcing the commitment to public safety and efficient urban infrastructure management.
