PMRDA’s Traffic Relief Initiative: Alternate Route Construction for Aundh Begins

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has initiated the construction of an alternate road on the Agricultural College Campus, previously known as Pune Metro Depot. This move comes in response to the ongoing construction activities related to the Metro and Multi-level Flyover, with the primary objective of alleviating traffic congestion for commuters traveling to Range Hills, Bopodi, and Khadki.

Rinaj Pathan, Chief Superintendent Engineer of PMRDA, stated, “PMRDA is developing a road to decongest the Ganeshkhind Road Stretch. We are making every effort to expedite the construction process so that commuters can benefit from an alternative route to the Aundh area. However, it is expected to take approximately one and a half months to complete the road.”

Despite efforts to ease traffic, the Agricultural College has denied the use of its internal roads as alternate routes along Ganeshkhind Road. PMRDA is working on the creation of a separate 7-meter road dedicated to two, three, and four-wheelers, passing through the Pune Metro Compound and Agricultural College area.

During the construction phase, an alternative route for travelers was finalized by PMRDA last week, following instructions from Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to explore solutions in collaboration with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Agricultural College, and PMRDA.

Key details of the alternative route include:

  • Commuters traveling from Shivajinagar to Aundh or Hinjewadi are advised to take the route from Agricultural College’s Wakadewadi gate to Range Hill Metro Depot.
  • Right turns are restricted at the BIL Circle when approaching from Range Hills.
  • The Dhotre Path leading to Aum Supermarket Circle has been converted into a two-way road.

It is crucial to note that vehicles will not be permitted from Khau Galli road to access University Road during this construction period.
