PMPML’s Clean-Up Drive: Addressing Concerns at Aundh Bus Stand

In a proactive move aimed at enhancing the cleanliness and efficiency of its operations, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has initiated steps to address concerns at its depot located in Aundh.

Addressing the Problem

Public utility officials have identified a pressing issue at the depot, with over 70 breakdown buses occupying the space alongside accumulated garbage. The presence of stagnant water in certain areas has raised concerns about the potential spread of mosquito-borne diseases, prompting the need for immediate action.

Collaborative Efforts

The matter was brought to light during a recent meeting convened by Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole with PMPML Chairman and Managing Director, Sanjay Kolte. Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, Shirole emphasized the importance of addressing the issue promptly to safeguard public health and maintain the integrity of the transportation system.

Directive for Action

Following discussions, Kolte announced decisive measures to mitigate the problem. Private contractors, who own the parked buses, have been directed to promptly remove their vehicles from the premises. Subsequently, a comprehensive cleanup drive will be initiated to restore the depot to its optimal condition.

Historical Context

The PMPML bus depot in Aundh occupies land formerly designated for octroi collection, a system abolished by the state government. In response to the changing landscape of municipal taxation, the public transport utility was granted prime plots across the city for the establishment of bus stands. This strategic reallocation underscores the organization’s commitment to adaptability and efficient utilization of resources in serving the transportation needs of the community.

Commitment to Public Welfare

As an integral component of Pune’s public transport infrastructure, the PMPML remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of commuters. By addressing issues such as cleanliness and operational efficiency, the organization reaffirms its dedication to providing reliable and sustainable transportation solutions.
