PMPML Takes Firm Stand Against Mobile Noise: Introduces Mandatory Headphones Rule

Pune, 8th February 2024: Responding to escalating complaints of mobile noise disturbances on its buses, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has introduced a mandatory headphones rule for passengers using mobile phones. The rule, which covers all PMPML bus routes, comes into effect immediately, and violators may face legal consequences for non-compliance.

PMPML, with its extensive fleet of 1785 buses operating on 396 routes, serves a substantial commuter base, exceeding 1.3 lakh passengers daily. The increasing prevalence of mobile phones on buses has led to disruptions caused by loud conversations, videos, and music, affecting the overall travel experience for passengers.

In an effort to address this issue and enhance the quality of travel, PMPML has now made it compulsory for passengers to use headphones or earphones while engaging with their mobile devices. The new rule is applicable to all PMPML routes, covering Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad city, suburbs, as well as the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) rural areas.

The administration has issued a stern warning to passengers, emphasizing that failure to comply with the specified rule may result in legal consequences under Section 38/112 of the Maharashtra Police Act. This section allows for criminal action against those who violate rules related to public order and safety.

This proactive measure aims to create a more pleasant and respectful commuting environment for all passengers utilizing PMPML services. By addressing the issue of mobile noise, the authorities hope to contribute to a smoother and more enjoyable travel experience for the diverse commuter population in Pune.
