PMC Expands Tax Base: 53,000 Properties Added for Revenue Surge

Pune Municipal Corporation Eyes Financial Boost with Significant Expansion in Tax Ambit

In a notable development, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken strides to broaden its tax base by incorporating over 53,000 new properties in the fiscal year 2023–24.

This strategic move is anticipated to generate an estimated revenue of Rs 170 crore for the civic body. The surge in properties under PMC’s purview marks a substantial increase, with the total number escalating from 8 lakh in 2017 to 12.5 lakh presently, owing to the amalgamation of 34 areas into PMC’s jurisdiction.

To facilitate property owners’ registration with the corporation, dedicated ward-wise teams have been mobilized to identify unregistered properties, elucidated Madhav Jagtap, head of PMC’s property tax department.

The augmented revenue from property tax, projected at approximately Rs 2,275 crore, is complemented by an impressive earning exceeding Rs 2,400 crore by PMC’s building permissions department during the same period.
